Scaling Kanban with Domain Story Telling
Applying Kanban is hard because first, you have to understand the domain/relations/actors/actions in order to see the value stream. Understanding and identifying the value stream is hard. At that point, the STATIK approach helps us but it is not enough. In fact, applying the Kanban at the coordination level or portfolio level is hard and in order to solve that problem we can apply Domain Story Telling approach.
With Domain Storytelling you can employ the same principle when learning a new domain language. Let domain experts tell their domain stories. While listening, you record the domain stories using a pictographic language. The domain experts can see immediately if you understand their story correctly. After very few stories, you are able to talk about the people, tasks, tools, work items, and events in that domain.
In that talk, we will show high-level Kanban boards (coarse-grained) and Detailed “as-is” Kanban boards (operation level). At the end of this talk, attendees will be able to identify value streams with pictographic language.
